At a very special concert, which "hides" as many as three concerts, we will hear the popular band Same babe and the legendary singer-songwriter Jani Kovačič. Same babe are known for putting to music verses by various Slovenian poets, as well as their own bitter-sweet songs, in which they mix the influences of songwriting, chanson, cabaret, Slovenian folk music, rock, blues, punk and jazz. The group was formed in 2003 as a project of four musicians who set Janez Menart's poems to music at a literary evening. It was this performance that gave rise to the band, and Menart's songs were included in the debut album Za ljubi kruhek in njene črne črne lase (2007). Terezijanske, the second album (2011), brought an emphasis on their own lyrics and some arrangements of folk songs, as well as poets (Kajetan Kovič, Frane Milčinski - Ježek). The sound of the band has changed over the years and today it shifts between acoustic parts with harmony a cappella singing and sharp sound with connections to rock and punk. Such a sound is most evident on the last album Vražji bend (2019), which received great reviews. "Where the devil doesn't dare, he sends Same babe…" (Robert Suša, Radio Študent). Jani Kovačič has been active since 1976, and his debut Ulica talcev was published in 1980, which makes him one of the longest-lived and also most genre-diverse Slovenian artists. Although he started as a classical acoustic singer-songwriter, he soon "electrified" his sound and began performing with various backing bands, which gave his engaged expression the energy of alternative rock or punk. He is the author of many popular hits, such as Škoflca, Žare lepotec, Delam and Revolucija. In addition to many original songs, his repertoire includes many covers by renowned singer-songwriters and poets, such as Tom Waits or Robert Burns. The concert program will consist of three parts; first, the band and Kovačič will perform separately, but with adaptations of lesser-known songs of each other, and in the third part, they will give a joint performance. As a toast to the joint project, Same babe released a single and a video with a remake of a song by Jani Kovačič, Predsednik ZDA.
