Janez Škof and Marjan Stanić have been active in the band Čompe (which celebrated 25 years of operation in 2019) for many years. Through their interpretations, the words of the poets Dane Zajc, Milan Jesih, Edvard Kocbek and Andrej Rozman Roza sounded in a cabaret or ethno-punk key, and sometimes also dressed in a drop or two of jazz. These two musicians do quite similar sound and word antics in the duo as their band Čompe, only that it all sounds more intimate. The roots of such an approach to poetry can be found in the collaboration of the poet Dane Zajc and the actor Janez Škof, who released a joint album Kepa pepela in the 1990s, which also contains many poems put to music, which later found their way into the Čompe's repertoire, as well as the present duo's. While Škof is best known as an acclaimed drama and television actor (Borštnik Award in 2005, series such as Pravi biznis, Naša mala klinika, etc.), Stanić is a regular on the music scene, as he works with many genre-diverse bands (Vasko Atanasovski Trio, Jimmy Barka Experience, Žoambo Žoet Workestrao, Bratko Bibič's and Uršula Ramoveš's bands, etc.).
