Divanhana was founded in 2009 by students of the Sarajevo Academy of Music in order to modernize songs from the Balkans (besides Bosnia, they are also exploring the heritage of Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia) with a special emphasis on Bosnian sevdalinka songs. The band is usually labeled by connoiseurs as part of neosevdah, the new wave of updating the traditional sevdah, which includes musicians such as Mostar Sevdah Reunion, Damir Imamović, Amira Medunjanin and Božo Vrećo. While many of the mentioned are spicing sevdah primarily by the elements of jazz, they are not so much at the forefront of the Divanhana music, as their arrangements are characterized by the mixing of the tradition with pop and classical music. Divanhana have played numerous concerts across the countries of the former Yugoslavia and also across Europe (the prestigious WOMEX festival); their albums and concerts garnered excellent reviews in the respected magazines such as Jazzthetik and the Irish Times. They come to Cerkno with new songs from their fourth album Kardeş, marked by Turkish influences, as they recorded the album with a guest, Turkish singer and actress Suzan Kardeş.
