Rudi Bučar Trio + Zoc + Lenhart Tapes + Ndox Electrique @ Druga Godba 2024
Rudi Bučar Trio (SI)
It’s so difficult to believe that Rudi Bučar has never played a Druga Godba stage that ... it could be that he's been waiting all this time for a big round number to come along. Over a career spanning 25 years, Slovenian Istria’s most beloved artist has found unique ways of bringing popular music up close to the heritage of that fascinating and often mysterious region. A bit like those pop songs that always remind you of the good old days, Rudi has preserved the folk in his expression – and brought a little bit of Istria into every Slovenian home, much like Vlado Kreslin has done with Prekmurje. The trio’s intriguing sound is the perfect foil for Rudi’s lyrics, which sing of those things that we would like to sing to others. To 40 more years, for him and for us!
Rudi Bučar: vocals, guitar – Goran Krmac: tuba – Anže Vrabec: keyboards
Zoc (SI)
Last year this Slovenian-American all-star cast convened for the first time for ages in Goričko, a beautiful area in the far north-east of Slovenia. Their music melted into the sunset and the landscapes of the vine-covered hills, in anticipation of the first drops from the century-old barrels. Zoc are embedded in an imaginary tradition, shaking themselves into life through an interplay of sounds that seem to appear at just the right moment to sing an ageless song. Gorgeous, calming music by a sextet of master musicians capable of unifying individual ideas through improvisation. If you’ve ever wondered what instruments sound like when they sing, here’s your chance.
Blaž Celarec: drums, percussion – Žiga Golob: double bass – Chris Eckman: guitar, synthesiser – Adi Jakša: guitar – Andraž Mazi: guitar, pedal steel guitar – Boštjan Gombač: bass clarinet, winds
Lenhart Tapes (RS)
Vladimir Lenhart, aka Lenhart Tapes, is a wizard with the Walkman. Yes, that long-gone 80s symbol of musical freedom has found a new lease of life as a live instrument, as Lenhart mixes and manipulates from his weird and wonderful collection of cassettes, while laying down some of the strangest, most rackety and most propulsive beats currently to be found anywhere. For his second album Dens (Glitterbeat, 2023), which is finding love from everyone from BBC Radio 3 to The Wire, Vladimir engaged the cream of Serbia’s female vocal talent, including classically trained violinist and singer of traditional folk Tijana Stanković. Catch this Beauty and the Beast of contemporary noise-folk at Channel Zero. Belgrade meets Ljubljana – always a wild ride.

Ndox Electrique (SN/FR)
Ndox Electrique is a possession ritual that draws on the traditions and ceremonies of the n'döep community in Senegal – but a ritual for new times, with dance, percussion, (post-) industrial guitar and voices summoned to drive away (and placate) demons. What’s waiting for us is a wild, dark and above all feminine experience. These aren’t the sounds of Africa prettified for Western ears, but an occasionally violent, always explosive new birth in which tradition challenges contemporary musical currents.
Fresh from acclaim at major festivals like Le Guess Who?, Transmusicales, Womad, Moers and Sziget, Ndox Electrique will provide the perfect climax to Druga Godba's 40th birthday celebrations.
Ndeye Coumba Mbaye Kebe: vocals – Oumar Ngom: sabar drum – Mouhamet ‘Sangue’ Sambe: sabar drum – Mamadou ‘Pape’ Ngom: sabar drum – Gianna Greco: electric bass, vocals – François R. Cambuzat: electric guitar, laptop, vocals – Alessandro Maffei: sound design
