Ljubljana-born violinist Lana Trotovšek is today based in London, where she is building a successful musical career. She was discovered at the age of 17 by Ruggiero Ricci, who then acted as her mentor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 2012 she debuted with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, and since then has been described by critics as a “radiant” musician who captivates audiences with her “warm sound”, “refined tone”, “impeccable intonation” and “formidable technique”.
On the second evening, violinist Lana Trotovšek and multiple award winning Spanish pianist Maria Canyigueral will present Beethoven as the untamed heir of the Classical age, boldly breaking with tradition by adopting new compositional approaches and placing increasing emphasis on the violin as a virtuoso instrument in its own right. Beethoven composed the three Op. 30 violin sonatas in one of the most difficult periods of his life, when he had recognised his increasing deafness and was preparing to admit it to the world in the Heiligenstadt Testament. Op. 47 is the famous Kreutzer Sonata, which Beethoven described as being “written in a concertante style, almost like a concerto”. The dramatic intensity of this sonata places it among Beethoven’s most popular works.
