We will start the series of summer concerts at Stari plac with the performance of the Vasko Atanasovski Adrabesa Quartet, which was initially announced for March 20 at the Kinogledališče Tolmin. Reed player and composer Vasko Atanasovski is one of the most active and at the same time one of the most diverse Slovenian musicians, since from the beginning of his musical career - that is for more than twenty years - he has been leading his own ensembles and projects that are equally at home in jazz, traditional and classical music, music for dance, puppetry and theatre performances, or mixing different genres. Along with Vasko Atanasovski Trio, who has been a great success with audiences and critics alike in the last decade with a recognizable mix of jazz, rock and Balkan music, he launched the Melem project in 2017. It focuses on Balkan music and old songs from the former Yugoslavia (eg. Bosnian sevdalinkas and typical Macedonian sad songs), as well as his own compositions in the vein of the aforementioned tradition. The similar approach is to be found in his quartet Adrabesa, which Atanasovski has been leading with various musicians for more than 15 years. In awakening of Balkan nostalgia, he will be helped by well-experienced and excellent musicians. Italian accordionist Simone Zanchini has been cooperating with Vasko for over 15 years; he is a virtuoso who plays with the same fervour and artistry both Bach and Balkan motifs. The rhythm section is also composed of Vasko's regular collaborators: drummer Marjan Stanič (Čompe, Bakalina Velika, member of Vasko's trio) and double bass player Žiga Golob (Vlado Kreslin’s and Tamara Obrovac’s longtime collaborator).
