At the last concert of Keltika before this year’s Jazz Cerkno festival, we will listen to two international jazz bands, the quartet The Gatherers and the trio Diego Caicedo / Vasco Trilla / Jošt Drašler. The latter will perform as part of the Better Live tour, which is committed to the sustainable circulation of musicians in Europe. Zavod Sploh is the main partner in our region, and 12 Slovenian, Italian and Croatian organizations involved in promoting concerts and other events related to free improvisation are included in the regional network. Guitarist Diego Caicedo and drummer Vasco Trilla from Barcelona embarked on the first Better Live tour, and they will be joined by various local musicians; Slovenian double bass player Jošt Drašler will play with them in Cerkno. All three are among the leading improvisers on the Barcelona and Slovenian scene. In this new formation, they will let themselves be inspired by the moment and deepen mutual communication in building improvised compositions on the fly. The Gatherers were assembled in 2019 by saxophonist Luka Zabric, who focuses on the acoustic exploration of the sonority of the saxophone, mainly through the use of extended playing techniques. The band’s motto is based on the interaction between the diverse backgrounds of the band members; these flow into a collective eclectic expressiveness, marked by the individuality of each member, but united by a common musical vision.
